At the November meeting, our past President Harvey Low will talk about a Toronto neighbourhood’s lost generation of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in WW2. Specifically, Harvey will talk about a youth that lived only doors away from his house, almost 100 years ago, who joined as an underage but died in a Lancaster Bomber over the skies of Germany in 1945. The research behind him and the aircraft that he and his crew mates flew and perished in, will be presented by way of a 1/72 RAF Lancaster Bomber, researched with the proper markings and serial numbers. A major component of the presentation was the use of Government and media data to explore the profile of this crewmember as well as others that lived in the neighbourhood and died for their country. A fitting tribute given this month’s Remembrance Day Ceremonies.

One of the fun things about any hobby are all the tools you get to shop for and use.  At the October meeting, Soo-Gane and Maurizio will be putting the spotlight on one of the most important parts of any modeller’s bench: the tools we use to get the job done. From indispensable everyday favourites to specialty tools and those unusual gadgets you wonder how you ever lived without, we’ll be sharing what works for us and why, and where to get them. In keeping with the meeting’s “hobby tools” theme, for the On the Tables segment please bring along a favourite tool or two (instead of your models) that you think other members should know about. It can be something simple or purpose-built for modelling, an unexpected find from another hobby or trade, or simply a tool that has made your builds easier, cleaner, or more enjoyable. We’ll give everyone a chance to show their picks, explain how they use them, and hopefully send us all home with a few new ideas for the workbench.

It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the passing of Bob Collignon of IPMS
Niagara Frontier. Bob passed away last Tuesday. He was only in his late sixties.
Bob was a long-time member of IPMS Niagara Frontier, both seen as a part of the
BUFFCon Show, a participant, and vendor. I personally met Bob way back in 1983 at
my very first BUFFCon show. He built “armour” and was considered a master modeller
in this community. He was also a professional commercial photographer based in
Buffalo, and owned an award-winning professional photograph studio. He will be missed
on both sides of the border.

At the August meeting, I’ll be sharing highlights from my recent visit to the Italian Air Force Historical Museum (MUSAM – Museo Storico Areonautica Militare) at Vigna di Valle on the shores of Lake Bracciano. Often regarded as one of Europe’s finest aviation museums, MUSAM houses an extraordinary collection spanning more than a century of Italian military aviation, from pioneering aircraft and rare First World War types to Cold War jets and modern combat aircraft. I’ll take you on a photographic tour of the museum, explore some of its unique exhibits and the stories behind them, and hopefully provide a few ideas for anyone planning to visit this remarkable collection.
