July Meeting

Here’s your reminder that our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 8th from 7 to 9 PM.  Doors open around 6:45 PM, we recommend you arrive early to facilitate starting on time.

Our July meeting features a special presentation by club member Jason Liang, who attended the renowned Shizuoka Hobby Show in Japan this past May. Jason will share his first hand impressions, photographs, and highlights from one of the world’s premier scale modelling events, offering a unique look at the latest kits, aftermarket products, tools, and emerging trends from many of the hobby’s leading manufacturers.  Held annually in Shizuoka—the heart of Japan’s plastic model industry—the Shizuoka Hobby Show brings together companies such as Tamiya, Hasegawa, Aoshima, Fujimi, and many others to unveil new releases and showcase upcoming products. The event attracts thousands of hobbyists, retailers, and members of the international modelling press, making it one of the most influential exhibitions on the modelling calendar. Whether you’re interested in aircraft, armour, ships, automobiles, figures, or modelling techniques, Jason’s presentation promises an insider’s view of this remarkable event and the innovations shaping our hobby.

As always, the :On the Tables” show-and-tell will follow the presentation.

May Meeting

Here’s your reminder that our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 6th from 7 to 9 PM.  Doors open around 6:45 PM, we recommend you arrive early to facilitate starting on time.

At our May meeting, we are thrilled to host one of North America’s most accomplished modellers, Steven Hustad.  Steven is a retired architect who has been modeling since the age of 5, getting back into the hobby seriously and continuously since 1989.  He is widely respected within the modelling community for his refined craftsmanship, particularly in small-scale aircraft and armor. Best known for his work in 1/72nd scale, Steven has developed a reputation for combining technical excellence with narrative storytelling—especially through highly detailed dioramas that uniquely capture atmosphere and historical context. His work has been visible at major shows where fellow hobbyists consistently regard his builds as benchmarks of quality and artistry.  Most recently, Steven won Best Aircraft at HeritageCon last March with a 1/72 scale Mitsubishi Ki-21.   As he is based out of Minneapolis, we will host him virtually via Google Meet (a free version of Zoom).  Don’t miss this opportunity to meet one of the greats of our hobby!

We will also hold a raffle after Steven’s presentation, so please make sure to bring your membership cards as the raffle is only open to carded members!

Seminar: How to Become a Better Miniature Painter

IPMS Toronto member and master figure painter Paul Stockley presented a fascinating seminar at our April meeting where he outlined steps and techniques that any of us can apply to become better figure painters. Paul is a highly skilled and experienced modeller with a strong background bringing scale figures to life through careful observation, refined technique, and a deep understanding of colour, light, and texture. His work consistently demonstrates how thoughtful painting can transform a figure from a simple accessory into a compelling focal point.

Please find his presentation attached below:
