IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • The Model Clinic” is an idea we are developing to provide constructive feedback to anyone who wishes to have one of their models evaluated by an experienced panel (aircraft and armor only for now).  We don’t often get in-depth feedback on our models from shows, contests, or friends, making it challenging to more quickly improve our skills.  The process is still being worked on, but it will likely consist of an email reminder to submit a couple of pictures of a model you’d like to be evaluated.  This will be followed by a “live” session in one of our meetings, where the panel will first privately review, and then publicly share, their observation and feedback on each of the models.  Due to time constraints, we will be limited to 3 or 4 subjects per session on a first come, first serve basis, more details to come in future updates.

In the February meeting, fellow modeller Vlad Shalamov will present “The Devil’s Machine: Mephisto and the Dawn of Tank Warfare.”  Inspired by a recent museum visit, Vlad will cover the history and photos of Mephisto, a World War I German tank and the only surviving example of an A7V tank. In April 1918, during a German attack at Villers-Bretonneux on the Western Front, it became stuck in a shell-hole and was abandoned by its crew. It was recovered by Allied troops about three months later and, after the war, taken to Australia as a trophy. Mephisto is housed at the Queensland Museum, in Brisbane, in the Anzac Legacy Gallery.

  • At the January meeting, we discussed the idea of a session to assess and critique your models to provide constructive feedback and improve your skills.  We will be developing a format for this and proposing it for a future meeting.
  • At the Peele Scale Modelers club’s January meeting, Maurizio was invited to give a presentation on “Techniques to produce distressed paint effects”.  I plan to present this material at a future IPMS Toronto meeting as well, in keeping with the members’ desire to have more content about modelling techniques.
