Our guest will be John Colasante, an accomplished modeller and the founder and owner of Matters of Scale (www.mattersofscale.com). 3D Modeling and 3D Printing has been one of John’s passions for over a decade. He started out modeling in Rhino but switched to Fusion 360 in the earliest days when it first came on the scene. As an avid scale modeler, he enjoys making 3D parts for his own builds, and has now decided to make them available for others to enjoy.
John is based in New York and will present to us virtually. He has previously been a presenter at the IPMS National Convention in the US, and is a pleasure to have him as our guest at the November meeting.

On The Tables October 2025
Some stunning work on the tables at our October meeting!
The Ferrari of the Sky
IPMS Toronto member Thomas Ricci has assembled some awesome research around the Fiat CR.42 and compiled into a reference document that can be accessed by modelers worldwide!
“By the start of the Second World War, most of the major combatants were firmly of the opinion that the day of the biplane had well and truly passed. Nothing better demonstrates this than the fact that not only did the Italian Air Force continue using biplane fighters in the front line well after their rivals, but they doubled down on the challenge! That led to them developing what must rank as the ultimate biplane fighter aircraft. The aircraft, the FIAT CR.42, like many products of the Italian aircraft industry, was distinguished by elegance, power, stamina, and courage.
The FIAT Group, the Turin automobile business, developed the aircraft via the Fiat Aviazione division; the aircraft entered military service in smaller numbers with foreign air forces such as those of Belgium, Sweden, and Hungary. With over 1,800 constructed, it was the most commonly produced Italian aircraft to participate in WWII. The Fiat CR.42 was the last of the Fiat biplane fighters to see front-line action as a fighter; this Italian marvel represented the pinnacle of its type.”

September Meeting
Hello all, this is your friendly reminder that our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd from 7 to 9 PM. Doors open around 6:45 PM, we recommend you arrive early to facilitate starting on time.
We’re thrilled to host long-time member and talented modeller Dave Forest at our September meeting, where he will conduct a live seminar on airbrush paint modulation techniques. Paint modulation breaks up flat, uniform colors and recreates how light interacts with real surfaces. By applying controlled variations in tone—lighter on raised or central areas, darker along edges or recesses— modellers can reproduce the sense of depth that’s lost when objects are scaled down, giving the model a more convincing and realistic presence. It transforms a plain paint job into something dynamic, textured, and lifelike.
AGENDA
- 6:45 – 7:00 Arrive / setup
- 7:00 – 7:05 Announcements / welcome to new club members

CALL FOR JUDGES, CAPCON 2025
CAPCON 2025 is quickly approaching, and there will be a requirement for 12-16 individuals to serve as judges. You don’t need prior experience as a judge, but we do expect all judges to conduct themselves in a manner befitting the role. Fairness and the ability to work in a team are the order of the day. As a token of our appreciation, judges will be afforded a free parking voucher for the Museum’s underground parking lot.
If you’re interested and willing to serve as a judge at CAPCON 2025, please take a moment to learn about our contest rules and judging guidelines by following this link. There’s nothing onerous about judging a scale model contest, but as in all things it’s prudent to come prepared. Volunteers can reach out to the Head Judge, Mr. Mathieu Dubois, by email at ipmsottawa.coordinator@gmail.com. We will make every effort to assign judges their desired category, but some flexibility may be required to fill out each of the teams. Once we have a few names, we’ll hold regular virtual meetings on Zoom to coordinate our efforts and get to know each other.
We thank all who apply, and look forward to seeing you at the show!
Cordially,
CAPCON 2025 Organizing Committee
