September Meeting

Hello all, this is your friendly reminder that our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd from 7 to 9 PM.  Doors open around 6:45 PM, we recommend you arrive early to facilitate starting on time.

We’re thrilled to host long-time member and talented modeller Dave Forest at our September meeting, where he will conduct a live seminar on airbrush paint modulation techniques.  Paint modulation breaks up flat, uniform colors and recreates how light interacts with real surfaces. By applying controlled variations in tone—lighter on raised or central areas, darker along edges or recesses— modellers can reproduce the sense of depth that’s lost when objects are scaled down, giving the model a more convincing and realistic presence.  It transforms a plain paint job into something dynamic, textured, and lifelike.

AGENDA

  • 6:45 – 7:00 Arrive / setup
  • 7:00 – 7:05 Announcements / welcome to new club members
  • 7:05 – 8:00 “Paint modulation techniques”, live seminar by Dave Forest
  • 8:00 – 8:45 On the Tables – show us your projects!
  • 8:45 – 9:00 Wrap up and meeting close

CALL FOR JUDGES, CAPCON 2025

CAPCON 2025 is quickly approaching, and there will be a requirement for 12-16 individuals to serve as judges. You don’t need prior experience as a judge, but we do expect all judges to conduct themselves in a manner befitting the role. Fairness and the ability to work in a team are the order of the day.  As a token of our appreciation, judges will be afforded a free parking voucher for the Museum’s underground parking lot.

If you’re interested and willing to serve as a judge at CAPCON 2025, please take a moment to learn about our contest rules and judging guidelines by following this link. There’s nothing onerous about judging a scale model contest, but as in all things it’s prudent to come prepared.  Volunteers can reach out to the Head Judge, Mr. Mathieu Dubois, by email at ipmsottawa.coordinator@gmail.com. We will make every effort to assign judges their desired category, but some flexibility may be required to fill out each of the teams. Once we have a few names, we’ll hold regular virtual meetings on Zoom to coordinate our efforts and get to know each other.

We thank all who apply, and look forward to seeing you at the show!

Cordially,

CAPCON 2025 Organizing Committee

MIGHTY 8K 3D PRINTER FOR SALE WITH CURING / WASHING STATION

After some serious consideration, Harvey Low has decided to sell his Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K 3D Resin Printer and Curing/Washing Station set. The printer is still new (less than 10 prints) and only purchased two years ago directly from Phrozen in Mississauga. This machine has one of the largest plates on the market, with ultra-fine 8k resolution, and retails in Canada for $650. The included Elegoo Curing and Wash Station retail for about $200. A leather cover (to prevent light seeping through while printing) and some resin are also included, an additional ~$100 value. Harvey’s asking price is a firm $650, all sales final. Buyer picks up or he can meet you somewhere convenient in the GTA.

If interested, please contact Harvey directly at lowharvey@hotmail.com.
