July Meeting

Hello all, this is your friendly reminder that our next meeting will be held next week on Wednesday, July 2nd from 7 to 9 PM.  Doors open around 6:45 PM, we recommend you arrive early to facilitate starting on time.

At July’s meeting, our members Soo-Gane Won and Ming Wong will be sharing their photos and impressions of the 2025 Shizuoka Hobby Show, including a visit to the Tamiya head office nearby. The Shizuoka Hobby Show is Japan’s largest annual model‑hobby expo—now in its 63rd edition—held every May at Twinmesse Shizuoka, showcasing top Japanese brands in static models, RC kits, Gundam, trains, and more. It features industry‑only trade days, a family day, and two public‑access weekend days, attracting tens of thousands for hands‑on exhibits, club displays, and brand‑new product reveals.  This year there were ~10,000 models on display by many modelling clubs from all throughout Japan.  A second presentation by Maurizio Laudisa planned for August will focus on visiting and enjoying several of Japan’s hobby shops.

OPERATION “VETBUIILD”

Our member and past club President Harvey Low volunteers his time to “Vetbuild, a Canadian Legion Program that helps military veterans to cope with PTSD by teaching them how to build and paint scale models. Vets are hugely passionate about modeling now, but sorely lack good paints and thinners (they use tap water and old art acrylic paints not designed for airbrushes). They are now learning airbrushing and have a compressor and airbrush already, but lack suitable good paints.  Harvey is asking for any kind donations of spare Tamiya acrylic paints and thinners for the veterans. Of course any model supplies (sanding sticks, glue, etc) will also help, however, suitable good paints are a priority and Tamiya are especially simple to use.

If you have spare Tamiya paint, or feel like donating a few new ones, please bring them to our meeting for a good cause, and thank you Harvey for this important initiative!  You can learn more about operation “Vetbuild” by visiting their site directly here
